A-Power Energy Generation Systems, Ltd. (APWR.OB) is the largest provider of distributed power generation systems in China, and is planning to enter China’s wind energy market this year. The company also develops and commercializes additional renewable energy technologies. Earlier this week, the company announced that it signed a contract with National Power Supply Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Advance Agro Public Co. Ltd., a large Thai-based conglomerate, to develop a 300 MW distributed power generation system worth approximately $150 million for a large paper mill project located near Bangkok, Thailand.
The project is expected to begin in May, 2008 and will take approximately two years to complete. This new system will utilize two separate fuel sources: a conventional distributed power generation system fueled by coal, and a biomass distributed power generation system fueled by recycled waste.
Earlier this year, A-Power Energy Generation System announced letters of intent for 380 2.5MW wind turbines, along with two new distributed power generation contracts worth $72.3 million. Additionally, the company entered an expansion agreement with Inner Mongolia Wulahot Hengwang Heat & Electricity Generation Co. to increase the size of its existing contract from $175 million to $280 million.
