Hybrid Technologies, Inc.(HYBR.OB) is a technology company that is focusing its efforts on the development and marketing of lithium battery powered vehicles and products. These vehicles include autos, motorcycles, mopeds, bikes, and scooters.
Hybrid Technologies is currently competing for the $10 million Automotive X prize. This competition is looking for the ‘car of the future’. The X Prize Foundation is analyzing 64 entrants based on six factors-technology feasibility, fuel economy, design, performance, price, and production reality. Hybrid’s new aerodynamic X prize vehicle is under development at their Mooresville, North Carolina facility and is being engineered for speeds of 175 mph and a drive range of 300 miles per lithium battery charge.
In their May 2008 edition, Popular Mechanics picked Hybrid Technologies as one of their choices to be a winner of the Automotive X Prize. Popular Mechanics has test driven three of Hybrid’s all-electric vehicles – the RUSH sports car, the DASH version of the Mini Cooper, and their RYDER chopper. Popular Mechanics walked away from each “very impressed”. They liked the “Onstar-esque battery management warning systems” and the real-world crash testing.
