Lumera Corporation, a leader in photonic communications, announced March 12th that the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), the central research and development organization for the Department of Defense (DoD), awarded the Company Phase III of the contract that was conditionally approved in July 2006. Recently the DARPA indicated that all achievements dependent for existence on the award have been successfully met by Lumera.
D. Raluca Dinu, Vice President said, “The technical achievements realized to attain these milestones represent truly breakthrough efforts. Our 1.2 V driving voltage and 7 – 8 dB insertion loss on a stable 40 GHz modulator are, to our knowledge, unmatched by anyone.”
The awarded contract includes the development of materials with exceptional electro-optic coefficients, along with qualified thermal and photo-stability, and processing them into devices that will enable defense applications that are currently impractical with available optical modulator technologies.
