Clek Media Inc., (Clek) a digital media consulting firm dedicated to enhancing the value and financial returns of its clients specializing in helping companies develop intellectual property in the digital space, announced it has brokered the domain Fund.com, a world record domain sale, in a cash closing transaction. Clek Media believes that the purchase of FUND.COM for almost $10 million is the highest price ever paid for a domain name, as it tops what is reported in the current Guinness Book of World Records.
Historically, the previous highest price ever paid for a domain name was $7.5 million in 1999 for Business.com, acquired by Ex-Disney executive, Jake Winebaum of eCompanies Ventures. That, in and of itself, caused quite the public media controversy. Later Business.com was sold to yellow pages publisher, RH Donnelly, for $345 million, which is about 48 times the original price Mr. Winebaum paid.
Wall Street investors continue to appoint higher values to Internet domain names. MSNBC reported that CREDITCARDS.COM was purchased for $2.75 million in cash. MSNBC quoted ClickSuccess CEO Dan Smith, “It’s like prime real estate, there’s only so much of this real estate to go around. I feel like we bought a slice of Park Avenue.”
