Universal Detection Technology (OTCBB: UDTT / FRANKFURT: PO8), a developer of early-warning bioterrorism monitoring technologies and provider of counter-terrorism consulting and training services, issued an analysis of the recent ricin incident in Las Vegas. A man is currently in critical condition after being found unconscious in a Las Vegas motel room with a powder suspected of being the poison ricin.
Ricin, one of the most toxic substances known to man, can be made from the waste left over from processing castor beans. This highly toxic substance if injected can kill an adult with as little as 500 micrograms, and some research indicates that similar amounts could be lethal, if inhaled. Ricin has been used in the past as a bioterrorist weapon and remains a serious threat.
Universal Detection Technology’s bioterrorism detection kits are designed to successfully detect the presence of ricin toxin in less than 15 minutes. The company also develops early-warning monitoring technologies to protect people from other infectious health threats and provides counter-terrorism consulting and training services. The company supplies counter-terrorism services and technologies to private and government organizations as well as owns the license to a patented technology developed at NASA’s JPL.
