Solar power has always been the holy grail of environmentalists and those seeking to profit by it. Realistic commercial development issues, however, slowed the move toward this renewable energy source and frustrated proponents of the environmentally sound systems. Today’s solar power energy companies may have removed some of these roadblocks and opened widespread use of solar power for residential, commercial and industrial users.
Open Energy Corporation, a renewable energy company, offers energy generating solar products to residential, commercial and industrial customers worldwide. Photovoltaic roofing systems are the mainstay of the company with increasing sales being seen as the company shows its stylish and durable product lines. Only now beginning to hit their stride, photovoltaics have been available to the marketplace for quite some time. Unfortunately, they ran into commercially viable technical issues and stalled the commercialization process in the 1980’s and 90’s. These’s issues have apparently been cracked by Open Energy Corporation, and a few others, opening the flood gates for new customers to enter the marketplace.
Cost, appearance, performance and durability were the main stumbling blocks for photovoltaic power. The cost and performance issues of the systems were easily worked on and brought to reasonable levels on a cost/payback basis. Over the years, however, appearance and durability were more difficult to deal with but have now been solved in several ways. Where durability is concerned, the company appears to have progressed to that point where it can offer a respectable roofing warranty that is somewhat in line with existing roofing products. Appearance has also been dealt with by the company as it offers thinner profile products with tile options, membrane options and architectural glass.
By all accounts, the company ‘s product lines are being well received in the commercial markets with a large commercial order for its roofing tiles being placed and a San Francisco power utility ordering a membrane system for its roof/power needs. The real key to this market is perhaps the more mundane products associated with power generation or the membrane products that carry the photovoltaic cells. The membrane needs to be extra durable, while functional, to warrant a longer warranty. Open energy appears to have a product system that meets this need and could very well profit by it.
