With revenues in the gluten-free vodka sector on the rise, consumer expenditures are driving revenues upward and are projected to soar past the $15 billion mark in the next two years. The New York Times recently reported that Gluten-free products have recently experienced substantial gains, finding that the portion of households reporting purchases of gluten-free products to Nielsen reached 11 percent in 2013 after just five percent was reported in 2010. Market researcher NPD Group, which has followed the food industry for 30-plus years, estimates 30 percent of the public is looking to reduce its gluten intake. NPD Group’s findings suggest new consumers are turning to gluten-free products even if they are not gluten intolerant or gluten sensitive.
