Global semiconductor solutions leader Entropic announced it has acquired leading product development company Mobius Semiconductor, Inc., a company engaged in developing low-power, high-performance analog mixed-signal semiconductor solutions.Included among Mobius’ products are high-speed ADCs, DACs, ADPLLs, SERDES and proprietary intellectual property forachieving leading performance. Entropic purchased Mobius for around $13 million cash plus employee equity-based incentives, according to the terms of the contract.
Acquiring Mobius will enable Entropic to add advanced analog mixed-signal expertise and to strengthen its competitive product offerings, both in the cable and inthe satellite markets.
Mobius was founded in 2004 and offers technology that blends signal processing with analog circuit design, greatly reducing power dissipation while attaining leading-edge performance. Adding Mobius’ technology will allow Entropic to offer cable and satellite operators solutions that encompass system designs that are low-power, broadband and high-speed and which capture the full bandwidth of the signal payload – driving more entertainment streams and IP services to more connected devices in the home. The technology can also be leveraged by global satellite service providers to migrate to digital single-wire communications.

Through this transaction, Entropic will establish a design center presence in Irvine, Calif., which is a recognized hub for high-tech semiconductor excellence. Also, among team members joining Entropic through the acquisition will be mixed-signal and digital signal processing veterans and Mobius founders Dr. Aaron Buchwald and Dr. AviMadisetti.
