SouthPeak Interactive Corporation, based in Midlothian, VA, recently announced that they have appointed Reba McDermott as their new Chief Financial Officer (CFO). The appointment is effective as of April 1, 2010. Ms. McDermott has been serving as SouthPeak’s interim Chief Accounting Officer (CAO) since August 2009. As CAO, Ms. McDermott’s responsibilities includs directing the organization’s overall financial policies and overseeing all financial functions including accounting, budget, credit, and tax. As the newly appointed CFO, Ms. McDermott will be filling the role for SouthPeak’s CEO, Melanie Mroz, who had been acting as interim CFO.
Ms. McDermott holds a variety of degrees including a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Virginia Commonwealth University, a bachelor’s degree in marketing management from the University of Arkansas and a master of business administration from the University of Texas.
Before accepting the position as CAO at SouthPeak, Ms. McDermott was the CFO for OuterNetManagement, LP, an Austin, Texas company providing network security, software as a service and hosted business applications amongst other services, from December of 2008 until August 2009. Prior to that, Ms. McDermott served as the Assistant Plant Controller and the Plant Controller for Corning, Inc (Canton, New York facility) from June 2007 until November 2008. Ms. McDermott has a variety of other industry and financial related experience including working for AspyrMedia, Inc., based in Austin, TX, as Assistant and Corporate Controller. AspyrMedia is a developer and distributor of video games.
