Zaldiva Inc. is a specialty retailer of new and vintage pop culture collectibles, comic books and memorabilia. The company also has an e-commerce website and portal – www.Zaldiva.com – which operates in conjunction with a series of ancillary websites and online auctions. Zaldiva is also a licensed eBay drop-off center with full auction house capabilities.
The company announced today that Allen Bellman of the original Timely Comics, now known as Marvel Comics, will be at Zaldiva’s Fort Lauderdale, Florida store on May 1, 2010 to sign autographs, do freelance drawings and tell stories of the history of the comic book industry. Mr. Bellman joined Timely/Marvel comics back in 1942. He joined Marvel shortly after the departure of the famed duo – Joe Simon and Jack Kirby – for National Comics, which is now known as DC Comics. Those two gentlemen went on to fame at DC Comics working on Superman and other characters.
Speaking of Superman, a copy of the 1938 edition of Action Comics #1 – where Superman first appeared – recently sold for $1.5 million at the auction website www.comicconnect.com. The comic book industry has pushed to the front ranks of pop culture. Many comics have been adapted into movies such as “Watchmen,” “Wanted,” “Iron Man,” “Spider-Man” and X-Men Origins: Wolverine”, among others.
More key players in the comic book industry will follow Mr. Bellman at this event which is called the Free Comic Book Day 2010. Zaldiva employees will be on-hand to answer collector questions and to assist those new to the hobby with selecting merchandise. There will be specials throughout the store and independent artists will be on-hand so visitors can get that one-of-a-kind drawing or sketch. It should be a great day for fans and even those who are not comic book collectors.
