Studies indicate oral health prevention is cost-effective and saves children from pain and lost days of school. Pediatric Dentistry magazine reported in a study on Medicaid dental expenditures that hospital care is ten times more expensive at $6,498, than preventive dental treatment costing $660.
This survey also confirms that children with access to dental insurance are more likely to have good oral health than children without access to dental insurance.
A national dental and health program must focus on prevention if it is to be cost efficient. Prevention in all facets of dentistry and medicine is the preferred and cost effective approach. The sine qua non of dental prevention will be Lantis Laser’s OCT system.
