ZAP – Stands for Zero Air Pollution
Automaker Zap is providing a broad range of vehicles which give Americans options and choices for their lifestyle and budget in its plan for small, low-polluting alternative-energy vehicles. Link Here to CNET Presentation.
Zap showed off this solar-powered Xebra Xero recently in San Francisco. Zap says the solar panel can be removed and set up outside as a charging station. Click here to see more Zap cars and scooters.
ZAP also plans a three-seat electric sports car called the Obvio 12E.
Zap also produces a three-wheel truck as part of its Xebra series.
Zap says its ZapTruck XL will cost about 3 cents per mile to run. It will speed up to 25 mph with a cruising range of 30 miles. But it will also produce 98 percent less pollutants than a gas-powered truck, Zap says.
Zap hopes its five-passenger Zap-X electric sports car, with a design based on the Lotus APX, will be on the road by 2008. The proposed price of $60,000 would put it well ahead of the competition. Lotus designed the APX to accommodate a gas-powered V6 and Zap will modify it as an electric car. The Zap-X differs significantly from the gas-powered version of the APX. The Zap-X runs on four hub motors on the wheels. The brakes are also powered by the engine. The 350-mile range on the car comes from the fact that Zap and Lotus were able to remove many parts required by the gas version of the car but not needed in the electric version.
In addition to cars, Zap also produces batteries for consumer devices like the iPod. The company’s iZap rechargable battery acts like a docking station and, for example, gives an extra 20 hours of playing time to the iPod Nano.
Zap’s electric scooters top out at about $500.00.
Roughly 73 percent of oil imported to the U.S. goes into cars.
ZAP is supplying the cars to the United States market that factor carbon dioxide emissions into the relationship the consumer has with global wellbeing. They have empowered to individual consumer to truly make a difference.
The world needs Zero Air Pollution more than ever and that’s what ZAP delivers!
