Arrayit Corp., a leading healthcare technology company that specializes in the development and manufacture of proprietary life science technologies and consumables for disease prevention, treatment and cure, recently announced that the company has installed its patented NanoPrint™ LM60 Enterprise Level Microarrayer at the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSRIO) in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. This study at the CSIRO will facilitate a deeper understanding of oceanic microbial ecology and bioremediation.
The company’s microarray platform empowers the CSRIO to manufacture microarrays, glass substrates or “chips” containing microscopic DNA spots that enable the rapid identification of bacteria and other microbes present in the Indian Ocean and Tasman Sea. Oceanic microbes sustain life on earth by providing oxygen, nutrients and bioremediation functions at all ocean depths including the ocean floor. The CSRIO is supplementing its next generation sequencing technology with the Arrayit microarray platform for additional speed, throughput and affordability.
Todd Martinsky, one of Arrayit Corporation’s executives, stated, “We are pleased that CSRIO chose NanoPrint™ to further oceanic microbial research. This information is vital to global ecology including understanding and implementing the most efficient means of remediating the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.”
Dr. Mark Schena, the president of Arrayit Corporation, added, “Ocean bacteria naturally degrade millions of metric tons of oil each year by converting hydrocarbons seeping from the ocean floor into harmless CO2 and H2O. Arrayit is proud to facilitate scientific research into natural processes such as these that are keys to neutralizing massive ecological challenges.”
