Everyone loves a good spoof and MYST has been very successful with theirs. They are making very, very popular films in China and Stock Guru told you first!
But this company is far from a one trick pony! But what a G=R=E=A=T T=R=I=C=K The PYE DOG is turning out to be!
Stock Guru told you FIRST —Way, Way, Way Back Last February!
This is not MYST’s first time to the Box Office.
Stock Guru let you know in a blog on Febuary 9, 2007, no uncertain terms that where movies were concerned MYST had what it took!
‘Big Movie’ has been successful at the box office in the first week in China. The film is a spoof of seventeen of China’s biggest productions including “House of Flying Daggers”, “Kung Fu Hustle”, “Daisy”, “The Ring” and “In the Mood for Love.” TCOM stated that it intends to continue to invest in the spoof movie series this year.
Understanding the potential of cinema in China requires a look at the size of China. By numbers alone, China’s size and growth is massive. China has 160 cities that are each home to populations in excess of 1 million, while the United States has just nine of that size.
China produces more than 200 movies annually. Less than ten are box office hits and most don’t even make their way to the cinema, noted Shanghai Daily.
Hong Kong director Ng See-yuen at a festival forum said, “The rejuvenation of the film industry can’t only rely on a few mega-productions. We need a strong ‘middle power’ that can promote the diversity of Chinese cinema with moderate-budget films.”
Telecom Communications has done just that. Big Movie has been a vehicle not only for success but for learning and evaluating what the Chinese audience wants. Telecom has hit upon a successful formula in this nascent industry and they intend to capitalize on this success and grow in an industry that is just coming to life in a country with great potential for growth.
MyStarU made a smart move with their joint investment in the Hong Kong film ‘THE PYE-DOG’, which will screen on November 15 in Hong Kong, China. ‘THE PYE-DOG’ (http://asianfanatics.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=390846 ) was awarded top honors at the Japan Asian Marine Film Festival 2007, and was awarded the European Assessed Best Youth Film Award at The German International Innocence Film Festival 2007.
