Share prices for organic food producer Amish Naturals Inc. (OTCBB: AMNT) rose 7.73 percent today, largely in response to the news that Northeastern supermarket chain Shaw’s Supermarkets has decided to start selling the smallcap company’s food products on their shelves.
According to a recent company statement, Amish Naturals products will be available at 150 Shaw’s locations starting October 1, 2007. Kehe Food Distributors, described as “the premier supplier of gourmet foods to supermarkets nationwide” by the statement, will handle the distribution of Amish Naturals’ products to Shaw’s and “other leading chains.” Reinforcing this decision was the news that Amish Naturals executives reported “strong retailer response” to the brand at Kehe’s recent annual summer trade show in Chicago.
This may be a rewarding move for the company, which tries to impress the homespun simplicity of the Amish lifestyle in all its products. The company’s Web site states that its mission is to create foods that “reflect the wholesomeness and purity of the Amish people and their culinary traditions,” offering a stark contrast the preservative-filled products gracing supermarket shelves across the country. It specializes in pasta products, offering five separate brands of all-natural organic products to purchasers straight through its Web site.
Don Alarie, Amish Naturals’ VP of Sales and Marketing, felt that this decision was a step in the right direction for the company.
“Coming out of Chicago, we’re proud to report nearly 400 retail locations are carrying or have ordered or committed to carry Amish Naturals, a number that has been rapidly increasing,” Alarie said in the statement. “When we sample our products, we draw a nearly universally positive response. Kehe went one step beyond [our previous showings,] resulting in on-the-spot commitments.”
