Clearly Canadian Supports Projects to Improve Access to Safe Water Supplies in Developing Countries
VANCOUVER, B.C., June 26 – CLEARLY CANADIAN BEVERAGE CORPORATION (OTCBB: CCBEF) announced today that it has partnered with Global Water, a U.S. based, non-profit organization committed to establishing safe water supplies in developing nations. Through corporate donations and upcoming fundraising events, Clearly Canadian and Global Water will finance and implement the creation of clean and safe drinking water systems in villages in Central America and South America.
“As a water based beverage company, we are truly honoured to partner with Global Water and this fitting humanitarian initiative,” stated Brent Lokash, President of Clearly Canadian. “Our company and our consumers are conscious of developing nations’ basic need for safe drinking water and we’re thrilled to be able to make a difference in the global community.”
Lack of access to safe drinking water is the primary cause of hunger, disease and poverty in the world today. A WorldAid fact states that the number of people lacking access to safe drinking water worldwide is more than 1 billion – over 4 times the population of North America or roughly 20% of the global population.
“We are delighted to have Clearly Canadian join us in this initiative, aid in generating awareness for this vital cause, and help provide communities with this basic necessity of life,” stated Ted Kuepper of Global Water. “Many communities, with assistance from Clearly Canadian, will have access to safe water for the first time in their lives.”
Clearly Canadian’s initial plans include funding Global Water tocomplete two water systems by the end of 2006, with the projects beingin villages located in Guatemala and Nicaragua. The company has set atarget to complete 20 new water projects by 2010, bringing safe watersupplies to over 10,000 people who do not currently have access tothis essential part of life. Clearly Canadian looks forward to meetingthis goal and to using that success to help bring awareness ofthe need for safe water supplies to the world’s attention at the 2010 Winter Olympic games in Clearly’s hometown of Vancouver, B.C.
