Some companies working to enter a market go the route of establishing a manufacturing base and sales force. Others innovate and sell ideas to more established companies in that marketplace. Still others, however, bide their time looking for the right opportunity, capitalizing on other’s ground work, successes and missteps. This particular business plan is just as valid as any other, especially in markets that are relatively undeveloped. A business plan such as this requires flexibility, a bit of maneuvering ability and quite a bit of luck. But, if all the stars align, profit can be found as lessons learned turn to gold.
Sunrise Solar Corp., a development stage solar power development company, works to develop solar power projects to meet specific client needs. A change in company focus has led to a slowing of growth in recent quarters while it moves forward with new business and projects.
The most common way to describe what the company does is to label it as a “consultancy.” This, however, would limit the scope and nature of the company from what and how it uses the skills and services its employees bring. In a very general sense, the company bids for the project design aspects of a given solar power concept and follows through with the construction management of said project.
In this respect, the company is currently working with a $30 million city redevelopment bid. The bid is designed to redesign a city into one powered only by solar power. Additionally, the company is working with a Louisiana water park to design solar power elements for water heat, night lighting through LED and overall systems power. From a general perspective, one might suggest that the company is primarily engaged in the integration of solar power into non-traditional larger scale power projects. Oddly enough, it appears that the company is engaging in a sales strategy more often associated with a more mature market then one that is still finding its legs.
Sunrise Solar goes to great lengths to point out that it does not compete with larger more established players in the commercial solar marketplace like First Solar. Competition in this defined commercial market for solar would put the company at a distinct disadvantage. Instead, the company works with companies, like First Solar, to advance the market.
Although one would be hard pressed to define Sunrise Solar as one type of solar power company or another, it is easily said that it has positioned itself to take advantage of the many opportunities that a quickly changing marketplace and world economy have to offer. The company is very flexible at the moment and may offer excellent opportunity for an investor willing to see where many divergent market conditions will lead.
