Unemployment Reaches 7-Year High

The highest number of jobless claims in the U.S. since November of 2001 was reported last week as the economy faltered and the aftermaths of Hurricanes Ike and Gustav continued to be felt. For the week ending September 20th, new requests for unemployment benefits surged to 493,000, nearly 50,000 more than what analysts had expected.
